Description: PLACE designed a fully automated irrigation system that was compatible with the City’s overall control control system. Boulevard irrigation was re-designed to eliminate overspray into Grand Blvd. The irrigation renovations also planned for future expansion of automated systems into the park. In addition to the irrigation modifications, PLACE also solved drainage challenges and designed a new section of the park which included passive trails, site furniture, and low-maintenance turf alternatives.

More Details: Based on the pre-renovation audit, the new irrigation system will allow the City to reduce water use by more than 50% in the renovated zones. Project challenges included utilizing very old infrastructure, and working around historic trees in the City’s boulevard strip where air spading and special installation details were developed for the site-specific conditions. Finally, unique landscape treatments were developed for park areas that contained challenging slopes to maintain. In these areas, turf grass was replaced with perennial grasses and boulders. All work was completed within budgets and time-frame established by the client.
